PKCS11 Command Line Tool Hangs
Posted by Mark Joseph, Last modified by Jim Susoy on 25 October 2016 11:14 PM

If when running the p6pkcs11tool command line program it hangs, there a couple possible reasons.

Unclean Shutdown

If for some reason the tool crashed or was killed, it could leave an orphaned semaphore causing the tool to hang. The semaphore is used to ensure multi-thread and multi-process safety. This condition is specific to the Linux environment. To resolve this condition the semaphore file will need to be deleted. Run the following command to delete the file.

rm -f /dev/shm/p6rcryptoki

Low Entropy

Depending on what operations are being requested of the command line tool, it may require entropy to perform it's work. You will need to install an entropy gathering daemon to ensure the system always has enough. Please see the "There is not enough entropy available" section of the How To Build The KMIP Examples KB for more information.
